From generation to generationSince 2016, Stubbe-Flandria has stood for a union of two Belgian tobacco companies with rich family histories in tobacco. The Stubbe tobacco company’s origins date back to 1943 and the West Flanders town of Zonnebeke, while Flandria Tobaccos was founded in 1939 in Kruisem, East Flanders.
Committed to and united by their passion for the trade and respect for the craft, the two companies worked steadily to write a national success story. Thanks to their constant focus on quality, innovation and automation, they have been able to expand into the export market and lay the foundations for an international strategy.
As a second strong generation helped to continue and expand the businesses, Stubbe and Flandria were among the few Belgian artisanal tobacco companies that were able to cement their positions in the marketplace among the multinationals. At the same time, the two proved to be fully complementary in terms of blends and export markets. It was therefore a logical step for Stubbe and Flandria to join forces in 2016, continuing as Stubbe-Flandria under the leadership of a third generation of the Stubbe family. |

1939
Raphael Levrau, working as a tobacco cutter together with his wife, Julienne Tack, was fully occupied with growing and cutting tobacco during the war.
1943
Maurice Stubbe produces rolling tobacco for local customers at the same site where the current factory stands. He later expands his range to include cigars and cigarettes.
1973
Son Jacques and his wife Rosette took over in 1973. Flandria grew along with the success of rolling tobacco in the seventies. Rolling tobacco will always be the core business of Flandria.
1989
Each type of product has its own production process. Frans Stubbe, the leader of the second generation in the business, decides to focus solely on rolling tobacco.
1992
Lieven Stubbe is the third generation to join the business and continues to refine the production process and map out the international strategy.
1993
Jacques launched cigarettes and rolling tobacco under the Marshal brand name. It became a national success due to keen pricing.
2000
Ten years later, Stubbe’s tobacco products are available in 20 European countries. Germany and the Benelux countries (Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands) are the main marketplace for brands including The Turner and Rancho.
2004
Stubbe Tobacco Trading (STT) is established to distribute its products in Belgium and Luxembourg.
2004
Flandria launched the tube tobacco brand Steeple that quickly developed into a success in Belgium. With exports, it is the rolling tobacco brands Sauvage and Flandria Virginia that garner the company international recognition.
2014
Stubbe increases its market share in and outside of Europe by cooperating with new distributers around the world. The success of its main tobacco brand The Turner contributes to its international success.
Today
Stubbe takes over Flandria and continues to work towards further growth and automation based on their shared passion for rolling tobacco.
2023
Today, Stubbe-Flandria products are available in over 30 countries and the company continues to focus on international markets.
